This paved the way for Cartoon Network India to broadcast the series for the first time on Indian television. The show was well-received among the audience, and CN India aired the second and third seasons of the show in the same year following the release of Season 1 in September 2023.

Background of My Hero Academia

My Hero Academia tells the story of Izuku Midoriya, a young boy born without a Quirk (superpower) in a world where nearly everyone has one. Despite this disadvantage, Deku dreams of becoming the greatest hero, just like his idol, All Might.

After a fateful encounter, Deku inherits All Might’s Quirk —One For All and begins his journey at U.A. High, a prestigious academy for heroes in training. The series follows Deku and his classmates as they learn to master their Quirks, face formidable villains, and strive to become pro heroes.

Broadcast History on Cartoon Network India

Cartoon Network India teased a silhouette of All Might on its Social media handles on 7 August 2023, hinting the anime is releasing soon on the channel. This was further confirmed by a launch trailer on CN India’s YouTube channel on 21 August 2023. 

Talking about the show’s premiere, Uttam Pal Singh, Head of Kids Cluster, South Asia, Warner Bros. Discovery, said “Cartoon Network has consistently led in presenting unique and popular narratives to its audiences. As part of our fan-centric strategy, our anime lineup has garnered tremendous response, and we are elated to offer Indian fans yet another sensational storytelling experience that has taken the global stage.”

The channel premiered My Hero Academia on Sunday, September 10th, 2023, at 1:00 PM, airing 7 episodes (EP 1-7) in the initial broadcast.

The first three seasons aired consecutively, with Season 1 running from September 10th to 17th, 2023, Season 2 from September 24th to October 22nd, 2023, and Season 3 from November 5th to 26th, 2023. After a break, Season 4 returned on April 21st, 2024, continuing the Sunday 1:00 PM slot until June 9th, 2024.

Starting with Season 5 (June 16th, 2024), the broadcast schedule shifted to 11:30 AM every Sunday, continuing through Season 6, which concluded on August 11th, 2024.

Notably, Cartoon Network India also aired several OVAs along with the main series. OVAs 4 and 5 were broadcast on June 9th, 2024, coinciding with the end of Season 4. OVAs 7 and 8 aired on July 14th, 2024, and OVA 9 aired on August 11th, 2024, alongside the final episode of Season 6.

To reach a wider Indian audience, My Hero Academia’s episodes were dubbed in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam—a successful strategy later mimicked by Cartoon Network India with their broadcasts of One Piece Land of Wano and One Piece East Blue Saga.
