‘Karna the Guardian’ Anime-Styled Indian Animated Series Announced by Crunchyroll, Premieres May 8

Crunchyroll has officially announced Karna the Guardian, an anime-styled Indian animated series created in collaboration with YAY! Animations, Zomia, and Ascension.
The series is set to premiere worldwide on May 8, 2026, and will be available in English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu dubs.
The announcement was accompanied by the release of the official trailer and poster on April 22, 2026, offering the first look at the upcoming series.

Story Synopsis
Crunchyroll describes the series as follows:
“Karna lives as an ordinary boy — until the ancient demon Kalimba breaks free and spreads corruption across the world. When the darkness infects his mother, Karna’s powers awaken, revealing his true identity: the Balancer, a Guardian born to restore harmony to the world. To save his mother and stop Kalimba’s chaos, Karna must train to master the power within him — or risk losing everything.”

Karna the Guardian was originally announced in 2023 as part of a slate of seven Indian animated projects under development by under YAY! Animations. Other titles from the slate included:

The current production status of these titles remains undisclosed.
The series is planned as a 13-episode season, with each episode running approximately 22 minutes.
Anime-Style Animation in India
Karna the Guardian continues the trend of anime-inspired storytelling in Indian animation. Earlier examples include Batu Gaiden: The Return of Asi, which premiered in 2013 on Cartoon Network India.
