Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama is a landmark Indo-Japanese animated adaptation of the ancient Indian epic, co-produced by Japanese filmmaker Yugo Sako and Indian collaborators in the early 1990s. The film was digitally remastered in 4K to coincide with the 70th anniversary of India–Japan diplomatic relations.
In 2022, a limited fan screening of the remaster took place at SRV Theatre in Malleshwaram, Bengaluru, organized by Japan Habba and Animaniax. The event was crowdfunded, reaching 158 confirmed bookings out of 160, and successfully met the 80-contributor threshold needed for the screening to happen.
The first show took place on March 25, 2022, at the SRV Theatre, Bangalore, with an additional screening added on March 27 due to an overwhelming response from fans. The film was screened using 2K projection technology and featured the original English-language dub from its 1993 release.
